Had a chance to visit Vietnam about 15 years ago and go to the tunnels. They were pretty amazing. The area is definitely a tourist attraction, complete with a firing range with vintage weapons. Oh, and they’ve widened sections of the tunnels for tourists. Definitely worth going to if you have the opportunity.
For many months,Donald Trump has pressured the higher authorities to cancel the results of the Presidential Election.
Early this morning, his wish came trueThe.Supreme Court nullified the Presidential Election.Of 2016.
With all three the Trump appointees rightfully recusing themselves, the U.S> Supreme Court voted 4-2 to overturn t he 2016 Presidential Election;and to remove Donald Trump from the history books.Asked to explain their reasoning,Chief Justice John Roberts said—“Donald Trump has been a liar and a thief all his life.It stands to reason t hat the only way he COULD have becomePresident of the United States was through dishonest means. All we have to do is backtrackand find out the exact details”.
Mr.Michael Pence ,asked,if he wished to be listed as President of The United States in Trump’s place;answered while running——-“Donald Trump?Who’s Donald Trump?Never heard of him!I’ve been living in a monastery for two decades!!Isn’t Reagan still President?”.
This left the government to decide who WOULD get credit as President of the U.S> for theyears 2016-2020. After the United States Senate spent hours of fruitless debate,SenatorMitt Romney of Utah said—-“We’ll just say we didn’t NEED a President for those four yearsbecause we’re America, and by golly,we’re THAT GOOD!”.
The Senate enthusiastically backed this reasoning, and ROmney’s motion passed 98-0.
The hearings were only interrupted twice.Once by the loud snoring of Sen.MitchMc Connell of Kentucky;who slept through the entire proceedings.
The second time was by Sen.Ron Johnson of Wisconsin;and his attempted suicide-by-limburger cheese.
In an interesting sidelight,Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was treated and releasedat Walter Reed Hospital after suffering two broken index fingers,
The injuries were sustained while doing a series of cartwheels on the White House lawn.
There’s a fair chance that clothes you wear, especially those that are causal or outdoors-related, were made in Viet Nam. We didn’t need to fight them to prevent communism. We just needed to give them sweatshop jobs that earned them more than could earn without our presence. Viet Nam and China are as capitalistic as we are…at least.
Susan00100: The Ugly Americans were the hero and heroine of the Burdick & Lederer novel of 1958. Homer and Emma Atkins were plain working people (‘the best kind of Americans’) who came to the fictional (Vietnam-like) country to help the development effort. They avoided the towns and lived a simple life in a village like thousands of villages from Burma to PNG. Their suave compatriots, meanwhile, were living in the air-conditioned ex-pat bubble in the capital city, attending receptions and promotions, drawing big salaries (and hardship pay in government service) and rubbing shoulders with generals, entrepreneurs and other Handsome World Citizens.
The book makes very clear the relative worth of the Ugly and the Handsome Americans and their contributions (or otherwise) to the country they were trying to help.
The authors, by 1958, had seen the Elegant French failing and corrupting Indochina, and they could see the Handsome Americans going the same arrogant, shallow way down the same Primrose Path. Burdick & Lederer were proud of the Atkins and their integrity; they thought that the only hope for decency in Indochina (and the USA) was the Ugly Americans’ hard work.

I was in the German tunnels under Berchtesgaden some time ago. More concrete and windy stairs. Less dirt. Yet, they didn’t work as well.

Punji stake traps and tourists sounds like a tragic combination.

The Vietnamese, after decades of fending off invaders, became possibly the most innovative and competent rebellion wariours ever.
