Manchin and Sinema should study history. Like the history of the 2010 election. Where two Dem Senators who tried to be like Republicans — Ben Nelson and Blanche Lincoln — lost their seats. Dems didn’t turn out for them, and Republicans in Nebraska and Arkansas decided that they wanted a real Republican instead of a fake one.
And nobody in their right mind would approve legislation that would take kids out of poverty. Not when someone could use that money for drugs, right?
I mean, not when we could be spending that money on weapons systems that the military doesn’t want, right? NO high level executives ever use THAT money for drugs, right?
It’s still a coal state, and he is generally doing what his constituents want otherwise he wouldn’t be there, I have several friends who have never been out of California and can’t believe there are real people in other states who do not believe exactly as they do. sigh
Joe Manchin votes the way he does for one reason only…………..money. Fascists always pay better. Being a republican in democrat clothing is probably the most profitable option of all.
West Virginia is ranked #2 in states most dependent on receipt of federal tax dollars, getting back $3.74 for every $1 they send to Washington D.C. 8 out of the top 10 dependent states are Red. Talk about being socialist states.
Just because he goes down into the mines does not necessarily mean that he will come back up. He knows that and unlike the miners get to do he chooses to screw over everybody while staying in his ivory tower.
He’s no more a Democrat than the Mango Madman is a conservative. They however truly are both a-holes.
I see yesterday (February 26) was the 50th anniversary of the Buffalo Creek Flood in Logan County, West Virginia. 125 people died when a coal slurry impoundment dam failed.
Ever since the Civil War politicians (especially in South/Appalachians) have been able to convince white voters to refuse benefits because black people might get the same benefits too. It even went as far as free school textbooks. As for coal miners there are < 5,000 actual coal miners in WV and most of them work above ground.
“You have a trillion here, and a trillion there, next thing, you know, you’re talking about some real money.” With some thanks to the late, great Senator Everett DirksenHey Garrry, just whose money are you spending here?
Why is the Filibuster anti-Democracy when the Democrats are in power but anti-tyranny why the GOP is?
Why do the same Democratic Senators who said the filibuster prevents the “tyranny of the majority” and ‘ensures the minority party has a voice’ in both 2005 and 2017 now think it is anti-American?
Maybe because they are going to the section of Dante’s Inferno for hypocrites?
LOL Joe Manchin is only out for Joe Manchin, he DGAF about his constituents anymore. Other than republicans instituting the death penalty for Democrats when they succeed in stealing the country and implementing a one-party fascist kleptocracy, he’ll probably do alright in the new regime.
It occurs to me that he’s talking to his own employees, since he’s a major shareholder in a coal company.
“Financial records detailed by reporter Alex Kotch for the Center for Media and Democracy and published in the Guardian show that Manchin makes roughly half a million dollars a year in dividends from millions of dollars of coal company stock he owns. The stock is held in Enersystems, Inc, a company Manchin started in 1988 and later gave to his son, Joseph, to run.”
If Joe Manchin didn’t align with the Democrats on procedural matters, the Senate would be split 51-49 in favor of the Republicans, and Kamala Harris’s tie-breaking vote would be useless. If it weren’t him from West Virginia, try to imagine the nature of the Republican who would replace him — undoubtedly someone more right-wing and intransigent. The sad fact of the matter may be that he’s the best we could hope for from that benighted state.

Joe Manchin says he votes the way he does because that’s what the voters of West Virginia want.
1- The United Mine Workers support the build back better bill.
2- There are fewer West Virginians in 2020 than there were in 1950 — 207 thousand fewer to be exact. The only state that can claim that.

Is panel 3 a reference to an old cartoon where some miners are surprised by Eleanor Roosevelt?
