College isn’t just about a higher income, although law, medicine, engineering, business administration, etc., do require college.. Love of learning figures in highly too. As a retired bio-chemist (master’s degree), I am now taking many courses in all fields for seniors: philosophy, mythology, ancient history, sciences and painting. Much of that didn’t excite me at all when I was 18-21. I’m getting a lot out of all of it now.
