The tender moments in this strip can charm us when they’re seenSuch loves Jim and Sarah have are few and fur betweenBut also in between them, to be measured on her scalesHer feelings also count. Most relationships in Endtown are cross-species, so the details regarding the mechanics are an every-day part of existence there. The real question is, “How do you manage a relationship when only one of you is nocturnal and the other spends her days vegging out on a hot rock?”
In a world without proper animal and plant life to support them the Topsiders resources seem to be very limited. What may seem callous to most, is a logical move by them to conserve what little they have. If it wasn’t brain cancer Sarah had they could have just saved her brain to use in a transporter or a drone. As uncaring as they seem they wouldn’t stoop to committing an atrocity to one of their own, yet they would seek to euthanize her in the name of conservation of resources. The topsiders are a ruthless lot to say the least, yet they are human ultimately and have lives and loves like the rest. It reminds me of those pictures of the SS officers and their girlfriends, having picnics, playing games and having fun and frolic while the ovens and gas chambers carried out their grim task of eliminating my fellow Jews in the background of those photographs. The dichotomy of humanity astounds me, how can they dance and play while the world burns? How can they believe that humans just like them with hopes and dreams and desires, who just want what all of us want like peace and contentment are somehow inexplicably beneath them, a sub species that must be wiped out like they were common vermin? Mr. Neathery illustrates this point well, that our enemies are really no different than us except for believing is some screwed up ideology that twists an ordinarily rational being into a monster. How easy is it for anyone of us to blindly follow some crazy ideal because it conforms to some of our core beliefs.A good example is the rabidity by which many follow their favorite sports teams, or religions, deep down we know they are no different than us, save for one fundamental difference, and by using that difference we can rationalize they must be on the wrong side of things.
What standard regimen format would you like to conform the comments section, in your opinion or image? Like Voltaire, I will fight to the death to defend your right to hold and express your opinion, and ask only that you allow others their freedom of expression. And maybe extend courtesy towards others in the same measure you would prefer to be respected. I am reminded of Pliny the Elder, …. Kidding. Thank you for your input, as well as that of all the posters. The subjects dealt with in Endtown discussions help us define our Humanity. Mr Neathery does a brilliant job of the representational and theatre arts, and providing the source material, seen and unseen that spurs discussion. A great many of us are of an age where we were convinced from early 1960s onward, that our future would resemble Mr Neathery’s representation. It is is ingrained in our very beings, and now we can look around and see things haven’t improved much.Sincerely and Respectfully, JusSayin
We regulars often forget ourselves that ther is an Endtown Forum. Perhaps it’s because going back and forth between sites can be a problem. Perhaps a copy of the day’s comic (or the previous day’s comic, for gocomics copyright purposes) posted at the forum site might facilitate the ones who are mor into discussing this strip than those who have extremely short attention spans.
Any comment here is valid so long as it is derogatory. This strip is one of only two, the other being “Lost Side of Suburbia”, where the comments are worth reading. In these two strips the commenters appear to ‘act their age’ and write words worth sharing – IMHO…
Recall the words from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s song “Teach your Children”.It sure applies here with today’s comments. If you want to consider a future hell, think about a world without enough fresh water. The landscape we see in this story with no or little vegetation existing.
Very true but remember back then we had the doomsday clock at 1 minute. I heard it moved back a couple. Just not the same level of devastation had the US and Soviets started chunking them back and forth.Still would create issues however.
Following up I did do some checking.I just love the internet library of information. The closest ever doomsday clock was 2 minutes. 1953 to about 1960. 1984 got close to 3. Story on the Military Channel about a near launch due to crisis with the US, KAL007 shootdown and Reagan rattling the Soviets cage. Soviets satellites saw what they thought were launch tracks which turned out to be sun streaks on the camera lens of their spy satellite. That and a satellite launch over Norway which the Soviets thought was a sea launch. Now it sits at 5 minutes. Stalled talks and proliferation, lack of security, and bad power plants.
Jim and Sarah have gambled and won. For now. A common refrain you hear in divorce proceedings is that people change. These two have changed a lot. I will watch with interest to see how they cope with the magnitude of their change.I wish them the best.

Okay, well at least it looks like the two are legitimate and not a long-range, deep-cover mutant infiltration by the Topsiders.

And he’s willing to risk his life for her. I’d call that true love.

On the bright side, if these four get back to Endtown, at least Kolowski’ll have someone in common to chat with…

Jim has the most expressive little mouth, and I like Sarah’s vertical pupils. She is a most attractive lizard..
