Burying them in concrete makes some sense. I suspect that unless they have a way to breach the walls (other than the river), there is a dearth of burial space.
Cremation in an underground chamber? Not such a hot idea because venting would be a problem. I an assuming some recycling of the air, and perhaps some comes via the river.
Have we ever seen the river’s entrance to Endtown? The exit we have seen, but not what was beyond.
Throwing the bodies over the dam into the underground river? Might be (eventually) traceable back if it exited the ground in at lower ground level somewhere.
I suspect it’s the rumors of the food shortage. Like Jake pointed out it’s a subtle way of spreading panic and it’s brewing right under the surface of normality. Some one is wanting them to turn on each other. With the lizards of Unity it was easy as they were all one species. Lizards versus everyone else. Endtown is different. It’s multi species and only split on one level……predator and prey. That is how this some one is working this place. Not one species against the other……predator against prey.
Concrete burial could be as simple as hygiene. Rotting dead bodies in an underground shelter can spread disease. And people don’t really know what the mutagen is, so sealing bodies up contains unknown nasties.
Possible things they might do to add a sense of purpose to their lives: Open a craft store.Open a rifle store.Adopt a pet.Learn to build tents.Lead adventuring jaunts on the topside.**thus giving people a reason to buy those tents.Start a comedy club, and/or do great skits to perform for Endtown’s citizens to create happiness, mirth, good will and a good place to go to make friends. (non-alcoholic only)Have some kids, bear-like pigs or piglike bears.Make raffles people can use to bet on who each child will favor.Leave Endtown, thus saving their hides, meat, and peace of mind.IF none of those work, start a mini brewery.
Pam Miner: “Leave Endtown”; I think you’re onto something there! Perhaps that was the real message of the Wally, Holly, and Kirbee arc: Leaving Endtown maybe the only way to find happiness!
Hmmm… Makes me wonder how Jolene is doing. Remember her? She’s the pig who got injured when Heather’s window got smashed. Doc had to remove one of her eyes.

I just remembered: the Endtown dead were interred under poured concrete. Has the eating of the dead been a problem for a while?
