    Refrigerators back in the day used to keep their contents cool with a big block of ice brought by the ice man each day. Hence the name “ice box,” Tina. Look it up on your cell phone.

    I still call it an ice box guess my age is showing…my grandmother always called the refrig that and I still do.

    I remember my Great Aunt having an icebox, and the ice man bringing the ice. This was back in like 1959 or 1960.

    My grandmother (born 1898) always called it an icebox. I still do at times.
