Back in the late 50s early 60s we weren’t allowed to hammer anything into a tree, either. Taught that it was harmful to the trees. Ropes, belts, string, baling twine, stirrup leathers, suspenders, anything but nail type items were our tools and it all worked just fine :)

Way back in 1962 my dad wouldn’t let me use nails or lag bolts to create a treehouse. Ened up making a secure treehouse with rope.

Before the sawmills went to inexpensive bandsaw blades, nails destroyed the expensive circular saw blades.
