    Some guy moved into our neighborhood and said we ought to have a HOA. We asked why and he couldn’t give us a single reason. He moved not too long later.

    He should have submitted the paint colors to the HOA first. Obviously he did not.

    I will never understand why homeowners allow a committee to dictate their property rules. Sure, I’ll paint my house the colors YOU want…if you pay my mortgage. Otherwise, bug off!

    There was a case in San Antonio a few years ago, in which the owner of a moderately historic house (in a designated historic district, late 19th century, German neighborhood, as much of the Hill Country settlers were) painted it in bright colors, predominately purple. There was an outrage until he produced documents that proved the builder of the house painted it that way originally.
