    But now imagine that you are the bread, and you have butter and jelly on one side, and you have been dropped by the person you love and face being lost, with the only choice left to you being whether you will land gracefully or make a mess of things. Whether you land on the floor or the table or the plate or a rug is entirely beyond your capacity to control. How can all these things not weigh heavily on your mind at the moment you go from being bread to being toast?
