Why is it? In this case, this has been developing over a period of time with the character of Annie. Some months back, Annie declared that she was going to stop watching what she ate and she was going to stop trying to be the perfect mom. This was intended to be a grand moment of feminine independence, but making such a move does have consequences. We have seen her children go from having relatively well-behaved children to her children being complete monsters. We have seen Annie get fatter and more slovenly. While that is no excuse for having an affair, ultimately we will see not only Annie’s husband reject her, but Elly will also. After this story, Annie will barely appear in the comic strip. Elly will go all righteous on Annie’s husband, but ultimately she doesn’t want to socialize with a woman whose husband cheated on her.
