The funniest thing about the strip is that if he were to re-read it today, now that he probably has all the time to himself he likes, there is a good chance he misses those days.
One of my uncles had such experience with his grandchildren. He thought they would be a “piece of cake” to watch and he could read the newspaper–and found out what his daughter (their mum) knew rather quickly!
Michael tries to get his daddy his attention while Daddy (John) read the newspaper. Lizzie just plays with Daddy’s shoelaces in her mouth, not tying together. She has not learn how to tie the shoe laces yet.
Looks like Lynn replaced the original first panel. You can tell based on the differing gradation in the brackgrounds between panel 1 and the other panels. Plus, the script she writes in is not as loose as in the latter three panels.
To The7Sticks: Lynn does the drawings, but she has assistants who do the lettering and coloring. I think her health isn’t the best any more (I read something like that on her website last year), so she needs some help with the strip. That is probably why there are the differences you mentioned.
