I can relate.

I remember this conversation with my son. We made all sorts of extra chores available at various rates and he settled for the base rate almost every week.

If I ever snipped at a parent like that I’d have a hard time sitting for at least a week…

Then you’ll do those chores for free, Michael. I disagree with the paying for chores concept. I think that chores are a kids’ payment for living in your house and getting food and clothes. Sure, they get an idea of working for something, but that should be for something extra they really want like a cool toy or special outing.

I did chores and never got paid. My dad didn’t believe in it. I had to wait for my birthday and dream about what I’d buy with $5

About 35 years ago I complained to unemployment that I need money. Ended up pumping gas. With no more free money and tighter time, I found a good job.

My brothers, sisters and I all had jobs as kids. Baby sitting, caddying, newspaper routs, mowing lawns, stock and bag boys at the grocery store. At payday we all came home and put our money in the family jar. Mom kept track of what each of us put in. When we needed something special like a bike or a rifle. The money was there for us. When the family needed something special like a vacation trip we all chipped in so everyone had a great time. We all did the chores around the house and didn’t have a hand out for money after we finished.

My son had what he needed and some of what he wanted growing up. He pitched in and helped with chores and did not expect $. He also had a job at 14. At 16 he supported both of us when I was injured and struggled to pay the rent.

My grand kids have chores and help to create a smooth running household.

Responsible kids grow up to be responsible adults.

Is it just me, or does Michael look like some sort of deranged muppet in panel 3?

Michael might be lucky enough to be in a job when he grows up which makes him learn a second full-time work process, and then be expected to do both FOR NO MORE MONEY. BTDT.

Nelly55, as a kid, I always had to do chores, and would get paid to do EXTRA chores.

yesterdays comic said 1$ a week. Hmmmm maybe Lynn Johnston is losing it.

My kids get an allowance and they do chores but no relation between the two. We all live in the house, we all take part in keeping it (well relatively) tidy and clean.

We didnt get allowance until we were 8.
