I loved it when a punch line like this came to mind. Funny lines would sometimes “write themselves.” The trouble with this kind of pun-based comedy is that it is really hard to translate! Perhaps that’s why my work was in so few outside markets and we see so few international comics here. Too often the gags are lost in translation.
It was not that long ago that there was the wilderness experience. Had that gone less fortunately, there would be a ceremony where the entire family would be paying their respects in another way: at the funeral parlor; John and Phil, their caskets side by side.
It is amazing how we don’t see what is in plain sight.Phil & Ellie are not brother and sister and John is not the father of Michael and Elizabeth. We know this as the double chin John and Phil have is autosomal dominant. That means if either parent has a double chin, all the kids will too.
OK, I Googled it. Cleft chin is a recessive gene. If BOTH parents have one, then their children will. If one parent has it, you may or may not have one. If neither parent has one, you can still have a cleft chin from another member of the family. The ONLY way you would worry then, is if BOTH parents had one and you did not.

Brothers-in-law may joke around, but not this time.

One of my favorite strips was when Calvin’s father would answer his questions in strange ways.

Good punch line. And Phil needs to lighten up.

Okay, Phil has some cold feet that’s just natural.
