The secret is you repack them as you go, and don’t act as clueless as your children (they have a legitimate reason for not knowing).

I’m OCD, and I was one of those people who carefully packed, unpacked and repacked all the ornaments.

Was it the thought that counts in this situation or not thinking before hand?

Farley is huge! If he sets one paw off of that couch, there’s half the tree trimmings gone! And a paw (or three) that will need attention….where’s the tweezers!

My mother was so cheap, she wanted to save the tinsel for the next year. (The popcorn strings never made it past Christmas Day)

@rideleader, we did the same thing, Just put it on top of everything else so it doesn’t get squished flat and it’s good to go the next year.

John simply lacks common sense. Bring a box, put ornaments directly from tree into the box. That simple. Continue until the tree is naked. Voila – you have all ornaments in their boxes and the tree ready for the mulch yard. Your way – the kids are likely to break many ornaments considering you left them all over the floor. You’ll have to go to stores – do it now because they are all 50% off – and replace the broken ornaments for your wife.

Lynn’s Notes:I used to ask the kids to help take the tree down. I thought it was a nice way to spend time together. Their help lasted for a few minutes, of course, and after awhile, I did it all myself. Christmas is a wonderful time of year, thanks to all the moms who make it happen!

As a depression baby, I can verify that.

That was because it was thin pieces of metal (originally tin, but since that tended to weight down the limbs, later aluminum). Now it is Mylar and can drift away in a floor furnace convection.

My mother wouldn’t let any one touch the tinsel, which she put on one strand at a time.

When I was single digits, tinsel was made of lead. We ate it and so did the cat. We did not know the content and somehow survived. Who do we sue?
