My son who is a father to two children, my two adorable grandchildren, told me their pediatrician told them that babies don’t need to be burped. Just don’t put them to sleep right away or they will not sleep well right after feeding – just hold them upright over the shoulder until the fall asleep. However, I still burped them after feeding out of habit. In my time, I was told I must hold the baby’s chin and jaws to burp. I did not do that with my grandchildren – I just hold their chests in my hand and gently burp them. They burped every time. I am wondering if burping is really not necessary or do pediatricians just have opinions on it?
Why is the breast milk in a measuring cup? I had my babies starting in 1995 so I am just 4 years behind Elly in 1991 and yet I remember very well that when you pump your milk, you don’t store it in an open container. You use something like an Avent bottle or a storage bag for freezing.
For the sake of argument, let’s suppose you do store your breast milk in a measuring cup. Why would John think that he was drinking regular milk, instead of something that had been measured for a specific purpose? John opens the refrigerator looking for milk, doesn’t find his usual bag of pasteurized Canadian cow milk but instead finds a measuring cup containing a small amount of liquid sitting there, and thinks, “This will be perfect to pour into my coffee.”
Is this really a carry-over from yesterday, when Elly brushed his cheek like he was a baby and his rooting reflex led John to have an overwhelming and uncontrollable desire for breast milk?
Someone please explain this to me where it makes sense. I am very confused.
one day the women at work, not knowing i was listening were talking about trying ‘their own’, and how one of their husbands made milkshakes for himself and 2 friends using ‘their own’ (not knowing)
April’s birth connected me to a whole new group of readers—new moms who wanted to tell me what was going on in their homes. This happened to me and to many others!
This makes no sense. Why is the word “mine” in quotation marks, since it is hers? Why is she storing in a measuring cup? Why is he drinking milk from a measuring cup? Why is he looking ill?
“mine” is written to show Elly made it, not that it is something of hers to drink later. John may not recognize the cup as a measuring cup? It may be in a measuring cup in the first place, because Elly is keeping tract of the measure the baby is drinking at each feeding.

I don’t understand the problem.
If it’s good enough for my kid, it’s good enough for me.

Yesterday showed Elly’s hand against April’s cheek so I don’t know what you’re talking about.

You would think that he would have got a clue from the fact that it was in a measuring cup. Having a “duh” moment John?

Several folks here have said that it tastes sweet, so you get both milk and sugar in your coffee at one time…..
