Elizabeth just learned about Bernoulli’s Principle from Miss Edwards, and Michael is wandering around the halls gawking at girls? Three guesses as to which one of the Patterson kids is better prepared for the challenges of the workforce and adult responsibilities, and the first two don’t count.
Looking back is easy – but when I was in high school, it was a complete phobia for a guy (me) to ask out a girl, especially if she was (shall we say) out of my league? I can only suppose it was also hard on the girl to figure out how to say “no” politely.
I guess we’re supposed to be sympathetic to Gord, but I don’t see it. The only reason he’s interested in her is her physical attractiveness. So why should she be interested in him? Because he’s a nice guy? Why isn’t he looking for a nice girl?

She looks pretty high maintenance…

Her clothes also make her look older. One reason I like uniforms is at least you can be sure school-age kids are just that, kids.

She looks like one of those girls that’s a real pain in the butt.

If he took a little pride in his appearance, it might give him a bit more confidence. He looks like a dweeb, therefore he feels like a dweeb.

The second sounds more easily to do.

Allyson appears to be out of his league. I am sure there are plenty of nice, funny and pretty girls within Gord’s circle if he just looks.
