Yes, Mike. Sitcoms are for entertainment and the actors have to talk. Gordon doesn’t want to talk. Put yourself in his shoes. If you were beaten up by your dad, would you tell your friends? Understand where Gordon is coming from.
That’s because situation-comedies have only 30 minutes to get the story out, played through and concluded. Gordy may come around later (ignoring the strip’s previous run). Just give him some time.
Most people in abusive situations (whether kids, women or even guys) are both afraid they’ll get into worse trouble if they talk, and partly have come to believe the bad stuff their abuser tells them —that they are somehow to blame for the abuse. It’s a very tough trap to break out of. And the most dangerous time for an abuse victim can often be when they try to leave. ( I once worked on a crisis switchboard, where I learned some of this, and also that I didn’t have the strength to do social work…)
Everyone knows what happens to Lawrence, and everyone knows what happened in 1994, so it is not a story spoiler. Given this is Canada, we apologize for the strong language in advance.
People see news footage of a Ford Bronco on the Transcanada Highway in a low-speed chase with the RCMP.
Newscaster: "We are following this chase. It is believed Lawrence is in the back seat of the vehicle. Wait, we are now going to satellite feed from the car phone.
Michael{on phone}: “My name is MP. You know who I am, gosh golly darn it!”
This is Gordon’s life. He expected it to happen. It happened, even though he tried to delay it. He has survived and moved on as far as he is concerned.
Life isn’t a TV show though many fail to understand this. My mother said, “Why don’t you act like the kids on TV?” I said, “They are paid to act that way. Pay us and we’ll act that way.”
when I was a lot younger, my mom gave me a black eye. Every time someone asked how I got the shiner I told them, my mom gave it to me because she didn’t like the way I rinsed the dishes and even less when I showed her the dishes were rinsed. She never slugged me again.

@ Argythree Yes, and the child-victim always feels guilty. This is very cunningly played on by the perpetrator. :(

I don’t know how a Canadian High School works, but couldn’t Mike talk to the school nurse or school counselor?

True, Mike. Looks like you need a better script writer for your life.
Keep in mind, in those sitcoms, they solve the worlds problems in 1/2 hour, including commercials and credits.

I thought that Gordon HAD told him back at Mikes house when he was in trouble for wrecking the car?

It appears that life doesn’t imitate art even if art is doing a good job of imitating life.

Maybe Mike should try putting his friend under some bright lights.

Writers have had troubled pasts and their writing is l’esprit d’escalier that they wish they had done.

Given that Mike was a part of the reason Gordon got knocked around, I can see why he isn’t speaking up, even if Mike is offering to listen.

Gordon will talk when he is ready to. Pressing him too much will make him pull back even more.

Tomorrow is the end of this story line. No, I won’t give away what happens, but suffice to say I wasn’t too happy with it.
