The whole New Testament is political. The struggle of the Hebrew/Jewish nation against the Romans is a main theme. Jesus was considered a revolutionary. It wasn’t so much the “blasphemy” of declaring himself the son of God but the threat he posed to the temple priest if he led open revolt against the Romans.

Sugie - Politics are part of the “Winter Event” in the US - why do you think we are now celbrating so many variations of what was once Christmas?

PV - The whole NT is not political nor about the struggle of the Hebrew/Jewish nation. It was about Jesus being both fully God and fully man presenting himself as Savior and the impact of that event in the lives of individuals in all nations. He was not considered a revolutionary - but liberals want to make him that. Certainly the Pharisees saw Him as a problem, but that was not political but religious - which they made political and if you follow the trials you will note how the Roman government tried to keep it from being political right to the end. But according to God’s plan only a perfect sacrifice was acceptable as payment for the sins of those the Father had chosen for salvation and Christ was that sacrifice.

It’s not about politics - it’s about what you think of Christ’s work on the cross versus your own efforts.
