Peter: Trying to lower their approval rating all the way to zero? Jason: Mom said I needed a project this summer. Dear members of Congress, I am writing about the high cost of gasoline. No doubt you are exploring smart, long-term solutions, but those might take years and years to show results. And you don't have years and years. You are up for re-election this November. So here is my suggestion... enact legislation that defines a gallon as being 32 ounces of liquid instead of 128. Gas will instantly cost only $1 per gallon!! You'll be heroes!!

This is not such a bad idea. It just needs the right spin. They could call it the Fuel Affordability Enhancement Bill or the Consumer Gullibility Capitalization Bill or the Motorist Distraction until after the Election Bill. I’m not in marketing, but you get the idea.

It’s a good thing he didn’t suggest changing the pricing to liters. That would have almost the same effect, and could be justified as continuing the transition to metrics.
