FoxTrot Classics by Bill Amend for September 29, 2009
Transcript:
Andy: Apparently "Dilbert's" big leap from obscurity to prominence began soon after Scott Adams started including his internet address between the panels of his strip, before such things were common. Andy: Now that everyone is doing it, I wonder what a cartoonist could do to distinguish himself from the pack. <WWW.FOXTROT.COM? Andy: ...without looking too desperate. Roger: I'm sure it's all part of the creative challenge.

I’m just surprised we haven’t seen product placement in strips for the sponsorship. Like you’ll see someone on tv blatently drinking a certain soda with the label clearly spun so the audience can see. Or a certain car brand being shown driving down the street in a show to showcase the car.

Newspaper comics aren’t as popular as the used to be, so they probably don’t think there’s enough money to be made. Not to mention comics are seen as kids entertainment, so they have to follow certain rules when it comes to advertising.
Jason has, however, mentioned new and upcoming video game consoles and games in the strip here and there, and you’ll see them holding a controller that’s blatantly the controller for a certain console.

I love it! Nothing better than a cartoonist that can laugh at himself.
