I can see them now rampaging across the country side as in War of the Worlds. Oh, there’s my meds.

When your sail is full of holes, it’s time to break out the oars.

Not quite. Are you living the same sort of life as the poorest of the poor in 1850? Or in the year 700? Even the richest people of 700 didn’t have the sort of health care, or entertainment, or travel, or many other benefits that you enjoy today.

No holes in my sails- no sails at all. But the hull has a hole in it and the bilge pump is on it’s last legs…

To Clark Kent. When the tide lifts the yachts of the mega rich, they spend more money on things like yachts and jets. This creates jobs for those who build them. They then spend their money at businesses that create more jobs and we are all lifted. The more rich and mega rich we have; the better off we all are. There is not a finite amount of money. The more they have, the more we have. Even the poorest do better when the economy is better.

The rising tide analogy assumes that all gains are equal. If the economy improves and a CEO gets a $50M bonus, do I get the same? No.So is it a proportional rise, then? When Wall Street executives double their profits, does my salary increase in kind? No. Even at my own level, in ten years when I’m earning 50% more than what I am now, it’s a safe bet that the laborers who pick my produce won’t get a similar raise, and I highly doubt the minimum wage will increase by that amount. The rise is more of an exponential one. The more you have, the greater the proportion of increase. The poorest do better, but by a minuscule margin compared to the rich.
