Reminds me of a Schoolhouse Rock song: “Electricity, E-LEC-TRICITY…”

I think the greatest invention was the thermos bottle. It keeps hot things hot, and cold things cold. How does it know the difference?

If electricity qualifies as an “invention,” then so does fire, which is still a pretty hot item.

Refrigeration/air conditioning is high on the list. But the ability to record the past is probably most important.

As a city dweller, I must nominate the elevator, though I’ll admit it’s had its ups and downs.

A 3rd grade teacher asked her students what was the greatest invention of all time. One kid puts his hand up and says “The car”. Another says “The computer”. The answers run the gamut until finally one kid says “The Thermos Bottle”. Teacher asks him why and he replies “Because it keeps hot stuff hot and cold stuff cold”. A few seconds later, one kid raises his hand and when the teacher calls on him, he says “How do it know?”.
