Boy says, "My folks pay me $5 for each 'A' but Evie gets $10!" Girl says, "My mom says learning is its own reward." Boy says, "My dad pays himself $100 for every 'A' I get." Girl says, "My mom pays me the same every year but I have to get 15% more 'A's." Frazz says, "What did you learn?" Boy says, "That Katie's mom is still in school, Egan's dad is a CEO, Isabel's mom is a sales director, and why grown-ups don't talk about their salaries."

My parents paid me a nickel for each “A”. But I suppose that compared to what my dad made in the coal mines in the 1950’s, it sufficed. And, boy, was I glad to get it!
