I have the same problem with my puppy, when the alarm goes off she lays across my legs. I love the look she gives me, it says, “Don’t get up, it’s warm and comfy here.”
Cat in lap, stand up, cat will go back to sleep. I think the first 2 sorries are part of his evil genius, as is the third, but maybe a bit more genuine.
It rather looks as though Caulfield used two different excuses on the same day. If that is true, and if Dr. Spaetzle and Mrs. Olson happen to bring up the subject, Caulfield is going to be in deep kimchee.
