Caulfield: Mrs. Olsen assigns an essay with one day of school left! Little time to write it, but no time to grade it! I smell a trick. Like it's really our first assignment for next year and a lesson about working ahead. Mrs. Olsen: Somebody squealed. Frazz: He's just fluent in benevolent deviousness.

Caulfield and Mrs Olsen know each other too well.

Ms. Olsen could carry it a bit further and give Caulfield a piece of paper with a huge y written failing grade on it. Since he didn’t turn in his essay on time…..

Caulfield will ultimately do well in the world if he can continue to divine motives and future outcomes. We learn to be devious at an early age, and in that way are no different than small animals who want to survive. Best to learn it from Mrs. Olsen—a master of the art.

If you think the 3rd grade teacher doesn’t talk to the 4th grade teacher, you’re in for a big surprise. .Also, now, summer work is part of the “common core” both of my kids have work to do over the summer and will be expected to turn it in next fall. I feel bad for the kids who change schools over the summer, now it won’t be much better than when you have to move in the middle of the school year, when at least the teacher KNOWS you’re new and makes allowances.
