There are species of sharks that can live in fresh water, but I don’t think there have been any reports of them in the Great Lakes.

If anyone can prove me wrong please do, I love learning shark facts.

That’s probably it, kiddo. Though some people are pretty salty themselves.

Aha! Lake Huron, I knew it. Her family is taking the glass bottom boat tour from Tobermory. If she’s lucky they’ll also take the ferry Chi Cheemaun and visit beautiful Manitoulin Island from Southbay Mouth. Nice trip, not too expensive as well.

Just better hope that a lamprey doesn’t latch onto you.

That’s a hypothesis, not a theory. A theory has to cover known facts, be predictive of new facts, and be falsifiable. In other words, it has to be a reliable description of reality.

Do humans have “umami”? Or would it be “humami”? Did Soylent Green have humami?

Sharks have a hard time jumping up the falls at Niagra.

I found this really funny because, as a child (10 at the most), I was swimming in a fresh water lake (Lake Belton, in Texas) and was out pretty far (for me) on a mattress type float with a friend. We saw a “shark fin” come out of the water and it scared the living daylights out of us. We got back to shore as fast as we could. We came to the conclusion (after my parents assured us there were no sharks in the fresh water lake) that it was probably the flipper of a turtle (they grow them BIG in Texas) that was coming up for air, but the angle we saw it at made it look like a fin. And we were not in the mood, at the time, to wait and see for sure. LOL

My hypothesis is that large man eating sharks (like Great Whites) aren’t found in freshwater is that saltwater is more dense and they need the extra buoyancy.

Great whites are NOT ‘man eaters’. They occasionally mistake humans for food. There are sharks that WILL eat humans in certain situations, but these are rare situations.

You have a much better chance being killed by a cow.

    Really!

I don’t know about Lake Huron, but Lake Superior feels like there should be polar bears in it!

http://www.gocomics.com/frazz/2019/08/02Of course, I spent a lot of time explaining to people that this idea of sharks in the San Francisco Bay was a myth concocted by Alcatraz wardens and guards to quell any temptation an inmate might have to make a swim for it. There has never been a shark attack on a human in the San Francisco Bay, I’d explain, which is true. It’s too brackish, I’d explain. The only sharks in the Bay are bottom-feeders, suggesting that if you get close to one you’ve got a bigger problem than the shark. And then came the video. I think it was 2014 when a great white wandered into the Bay and messily munched a seal in front of a tourist boat, meaning in front of a boatload of people with phones that shot video, that were probably already rolling. It happened right off the area where we (all swimmers, really) jump off the boat to start the Alcatraz swim. So now I can’t be quite so smug, even though it appears to have been an isolated thing, and the record of zero shark-human encounters holds. As does my theory about bland swimmers, just a little while longer.
