Better than what my dog is doing recently – rushes eagerly to the door, I put coat/hat/shoes on – we get about 100 yards before he sheds his load, and by the time I’ve picked up he’s pointing back home and refuses to go further. Not really worth the bother!
Our little female BC, who also made it to 15, needed diapers in her latter months, but only for piddle. For a dog who didn’t like to fussed over she seemed to like her “fancy pants.” She was VERY good about having them put on. I think she was relieved to be, well, relieved and good at the same time.
I also thought Fred had a doggy door and could go into a yard. If he can do that, he’ll go out long enough to do his business and then right back in again so he’s not in the rain any longer than necessary.
