I know this was a joke, but I will never, ever, understand why some people insist on their spouses who don’t enjoy something like the ballet accompany them anyway. Wouldn’t it be more fun to go with someone who actually enjoys it? Just because you’re married doesn’t mean you’re joined at the hip.

I can’t go to the ballet as I have a cold and my coughing will disturb everyone. (The thought of going to the ballet always gives me a cold).
