Maybe because we had a job. Saved some and invested it for the future. I didn’t invest it in the newest video game or the newest computer or the newest phone with the best plan or Starbucks lattes. And a college degree I can’t find a job with plus a huge student loan to start life on my own. I don’t feel one moment of guilt. I worked hard in a hot mill for decades to have what I need for retirement.

Reading this strip the last few days brings back unpleasant memories. I don’t understand why a child feels entitled to any “wealth” their parents may have accumulated. Any assets belong to the parents, not the kids.

I speak from bitter experience. My little brother felt entitled to whatever assets my parents had, which wasn’t much. I felt the assets should go to settling any estate expenses.

He got a rude awakening from the Probate Judge when he started his nonsense and the Judge shut him down hard and in rebuking him, spoke scathingly to him. The estate was settled, the bills all paid off and we each got a small sum.
