I think some of the comments were confusing the Etch-a-Sketch with those clear plastic covers over the outline of a man’s face, so you could draw facial hair with a magnet and iron filings. … Hey! I wonder if those toys gave the consumer goods guys the idea for modern packaging. Hmmm …
Etch-a-Sketch doesn’t use magnets. Radish is right. The fine aluminum powder sticks to the face because it sticks to everything. It’s probably static electricity, but I can’t say for sure. When you turn the knobs, they draw a stylus across the face and “etch” the powder off. When you erase it, the powder sticks back on, pretty much how radish explained it. If you are very patient and have lots of time (i.e. you’re a kid or an old geezer), you can wipe the screen clean by drawing a big black box, and you can see inside.

This would not work: Human remains are not magnetic.

There are no magnets in an etch-a sketch.

My ashes are going into my wife’s garden. That way she will still dig me when I’m gone.

You may be to young for this but Harry Morgan also starred in the TV series “Pete and Gladys” along with Cara Williams.

Wouldn’t ashes in an hour glass be more appropriate?

Human remains also stick to all surfaces, so you can make an Etch-A-Sketch out of them. Don’t ask me how I know this.
