Walt & the Elephant have things in common. Age wise, that is.

Does everything that happens in this strip have to be a disgrace? At least use a different word once in a while. Tragedy, travesty, sheesh.

The current strip story in a way is a sad tribute to my friend Joe Daversa who worked in Orlando Disney World as the safari boatman. He wore a similar outfit and commented on the various jungle animals along the way. He passed away last week and I see this strip a memorial to him. RIP Joe.

Here in Central KS the local school district starting today is offereing free lunches in grade school for children. I do not know about JR, or Hi school or do I know the ages for children get to have a lunch.

Breakfast and lunch for those children whose families can’t afford it is fine with me. You can’t think straight on an empty stomach.

But it needs to stop there, not (as is happening in my district where most people make more than I do) be extended to familes who have plenty of food but can’t be bothered to get up early enough to eat breakfast.

Are you saying Jim knew Joe?

436rge I’m sorry about your friend. The character in the strip looks like he could have been modeled after Joe.

I remember when Jim paid tribute to his friend Mark J. Cohen in a Sunday strip about a year ago.

I feel sorry for the kids with the “free lunches,” frozen pizzas, french fries, fried, slurried meat, and sweetened, flavored milk! Just the thing for kids who get no exercise. The homeless in this strip have probably gotten a more nutritious meal than today’s kids!

Thank you Stringmusiclaner. I doubt it Axe but the character reminded me of Joe. Anyone who has been to Orlando Disney and took the safari ride the past ten years would have remembered him.

    Joe Daversa was obviously well-loved.
