Pen2Paper - It’s an old joke. Jack Benny used it every year. An older person claims to be 39, which is one year short of 40 (over the hill) to avoid revealing their real age.
Well yesterday he said he was married 60 years but in reality it was more like 66. I am disappointed that so far Jim has refrained using nostalgia to commemorate 90 years but the year is still young. Get it? Young?
This joke really only works if you remember Jack Benny, and even Benny didn’t use it originally. He started off saying he was 33 or 34, but eventually stuck with 39 because he (and his writers) said it was it was a funnier number when you said it.
Skeezix may have been born some time between Feb. 9th to 12th but Walt always chose the 14th because that was the day he was found on his doorstep. Well I expected a strip or panel with the whole gang wishing Skeezix a happy 90th we only got Clovia and Nina. Perhaps such a strip will come later or some online post by Jim. When my mom turned 90 we had a big bash for her. Maybe for Skeezix it happend “off” stage.

Is that the Jack Benny 39 or is Jim trying to make Skeezix 39x2, equalling 78 instead of the 90 that he actually is?

Looks like my dyslexia is kicking in. I see 93!

You’re only as young as who you feel.

Aha yes!, the same age as I have been for last 15 years.

It was 14 FEB 1921 when Walt discovered Skeezix on his doorstep, so would some bright math guy or gal explain the “39”?

I think Jim is turning back the odometer… or the oldometer.

No where does it say that you must celebrate the birthday you are having. My mother celebrated her 18th birthday every year for 65 years.

Jack Benny, always 39, was born on FEB.14, 1894. Great comedian. Still miss him.
