Why not just trade it in for an electric stove?

If he keeps clicking the igniter, it doesn’t have a pilot light. And as for the suggestion that they buy an electric stove; if they are serious cooks, they will stick to the gas stove.

As I understand gas stoves, if the pilot light or the igniter doesn’t start the burners, then a match or “those flame throwers you see at the checkouts in places like WalMart and Target” isn’t going to help because the gas isn’t reaching the place where it is ignited. In other words there’s some sort of blockage. What Skeezix needs to do before tackling the burner assembly is to make sure that the gas supply to the stove hasn’t been turned off, either at the meter or at the stove, and if it hasn’t been turned off, to turn it off before working on the burner assembly.

Putting your head in the oven and striking a match is a good place to start.
