Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice started writing Jesus Christ Superstar about 42 years ago. That worked out very well for them.

Webber wrote 2 great songs: Memories & I Don’t Know How to Love Him. The rest are jumbled strings of words hung on music, like wet clothes on a line hanging out a tenement window. But those two can’t excuse the dozens of awful ones.

Actually, Unlike larger portions of the other songs in the show, “Memory” was not written by T.S. Eliot, but written by Trevor Nunn and Gillian Lynne.
