During a dinner party as recently as this evening we discussed this very problem between two insomniacs, yours truly being one.
Marcusliviusdrusus: Ginger will find it easier when he gets past 65 and retires. Then he can go to bed when he’s tired and wake up when he’s refreshed. The timing won’t matter a monkey’s uncle, as long as there is time for parties. It is now Ginger has a problem, he has to go to school.
Ginger: I’ve followed your exploits for a lifetime; today I can say it is no wonder.
The_JAM: We must remember that Ginger is 12 years old going on 102 with the 90th Anniversary of his public appearance happening this year.. As such, he has seen times when we were flooded with merchandise from overseas that had a somewhat dubious reputation. In the late 1930s we viewed japanese produced items with suspicion and a general recognition that they were inferior. Maybe our little mate is recalling those times, me along with him.

My guess would be he means different time zones and not quality, and that Japan was selected to better accommodate western readers (which I think are the majority of GC readers). If I’m not mistaken, it would not be the first time an alternate Ginger Meggs strip is made for the other face of the world, amirite?
