An old friend was absolutely terrified of skin cancer, because his brother died from it. He’d get checked by a dermatologist two or three times a year. But his brother’s was directly linked to a very high number of Xrays.
He also refused to be checked for colon cancer, because, well, you know.
I’ve had 8 separate “excisions” for skin cancer since 2005. Check out anything abnormal!
Back in the 60’s I was on the community swim team – slathering up with “sun tan oil” most days of summer. According to Wikipedia, the term SPF wasn’t even invented until 1974.
As I like to say: If you have to have cancer, pick skin cancer… one swipe of the melon baller and it’s gone! (Though removing the melanoma on my back was more like an ice cream scoop.) But this obviously depends on finding it early. Previous commenters have reminded us of those who didn’t do this, and their consequences.

I go for a PET scan this morning to determine if my throat cancer that was just discovered metastasized. Do I know how to start the New Year or what?

And I’m sure you can guess what happened.

That happened to me often back in my “nerd dressing” days. Then I got smart and started carrying my pen in the pocket of my dark pants!
