Heart: Mom, time to get up for work. Mom: Not for another hour, Heart.... Heart: Well, how bout making me some waffles? Mom: You know how the toaster works. Heart: no, I mean the old fashioned kind, made in a waffle iron...with real butter and dripping with piping hot maple syrup! Heart: That woman hasn't got a nostalgic bone in her body.

Hot Maple Syrup?Take it from someone who lives in the middle of Maple Syrup country, Maple Syrup is served cold..\\//_

Those aren’t “old fashioned” waffles — those are REAL waffles! Those frozen coasters you buy at the store aren’t even related to the real thing….And yes, maple syrup has to be cold, and so thick it hardly pours! But I doubt Heart’s ever had real maple syrup — that stuff is EXPENSIVE! You sure wouldn’t put it on fake (i.e. frozen) waffles!! Fake syrup (thickened sugar water) is good enough for them.

I always heat my real maple syrup. Cold syrup makes the waffles or pancakes instantly icy, and I want them hot. I get syrup by the gallon from a co-worker who taps the trees on her property. A really good price, and a gallon lasts a long time.

Sad. A child should have nice memories and a good breakfast, not fruit loops. Not funny.

Mom’s missing out on a good “mother-daughter” moment.

My Step-Father (Chef!) would sometimes give us old school waffles with bits of real bacon in the batter, warmed syrup and butter. Sooooooo gooooooood…

Mom would sometimes make homemade waffles. I never buy toaster waffles. I think that’s at least a venal sin, and possibly mortal. I carry on the tradition of real honest to goodness waffles. Instead of bacon (and that does sound good iwarriorpoet) I use wild blueberries and chopped walnuts.
