That was then. In the age of steering wheel air bags, it’s best to keep your hands at 4 and 8, and not hook your thumbs inside the wheel.
Hand at two and ten and the airbag will drive your hands into your face, potentially breaking your face and hands. If you hook your thumbs, it may break them when it forcefully disengages them.
Well, I’m a white guy, my friend, and when pulled over by a cop, many of which are black, I, too need to keep those hands visible at all times and be respectful of the officer who carries a gun and can take my life in an instant. I got pulled over recently for tailgating. I though I was the legal distance back for a very slow moving car. I couldn’t tell what his business was since he drove so slow. So, I drove one car length back. He stopped, put on his blue lights and got out with his black gun and proceeded to read me the riot act. I said yes sir, no sir to him the whole time and he drove off without geving me even a citation, just laying down the law.

Hands at 10 & 2 is good when driving. When walking refrain from saying “do you know who I am”?

Sounds like good advise for anyone.

I thought it was 9 and 3.

If you just complied and didn’t argue, many of the problems would not happen in the first place.

The advice I was given when I learned to drive and that I have passed on to my children and grandson is: “Everybody on the road is Crazy.”
I have found that to be true. Sometimes the crazy person is me…

P.S. Now with wheel mounted airbags, they recommend 9 and 3.

With steering wheel airbags, it’s hands at the 9 and 3 position. That way you don’t punch yourself in the face in an accident.

Herb obviously got “the talk” all black fathers give their sons.

My mother gave me the talk, and it protected me from the the worse conscienceless of the bad police stop.
