    I have to agree. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two panels as well.

    The previous two commenters are examples of exactly what’s wrong with print comics. The first two panels were just a normal conversation. Completely boring, and slightly schmaltzy. The last two panels are the whole point of the strip. Go back and read Fred Basset if you want cute scenes of domestic life.

    Sorry Vermilion, I disagree that panels one and two are unnecessary. Not sure if that’s exactly what you were saying.

    The joke is constructed by escalating the severity of the kids statements from panels one thru three.

    The first two panels “setup” the third and the punch line. The joke might work without panels 1 and 2, but it would take some of the heat out of the kids definition of excitement.

    Right, and I didn’t really think the punch line hurt that badly. More like a love-tap! LOL
