Not “mess myself”. It doesn’t work. Nobody says that, especially not kids. We all know what really goes there. Using “mess” in its place not only made us all insert it in there, but it distracted us from the flow of the comic itself. If you want to avoid conjuring the apparently offensive syllable, then change the entire phrase to something different. Here:“I think I’d soil my britches.”
