oh, fiddle dee dee. those marathon folks are so rude. do they ever thank the nice people who give them water along the way?do they even think about discarding their trash in the trash cans?Just because they have someplace to go and they are gasping for air doesn’t mean they should not mind their mannersand they just expect other people to pick up after them.land’s sake!

Answering your questions, nighthawks, yes, I do thank them and if they’re bright enough in setting up to put a trash can down the road a bit so I don’t have to stop, yes I do use it.More like sucking air than whistling, but neither is recommended in a marathon. Whistling is also almost impossible for me while running. I’ve been a runner since the early/mid 70s and don’t ever remember trying to whistle while running until recently. I passed a guy on a trail that was almost certainly out and back, wearing a sweatshirt with 3 sports teams (appropriately for here) referred to as “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” so when I saw him coming the other way on my way back, I tried to whistle the first 5 notes of the theme and failed spectacularly.

Once upon a time, I was driving down a road and I turned into a parkinglot to turn around and immediately these civilians handing out water refused to let me go back out on the road. Even though the runners were no where near me, they where keeping me in. I eventually just said screw you and drove around one guy who was screaming at me saying I broke the law for driving out of a parkinglot that NOBODY was running by. the runners were not on the main road, they were on a side road path that cross the entrance to the parkinglot. I am not sure why they didn’t just block people from going into the parkinglot. I do not blame the runners just the volunteers who are stupid.
