They aren’t arguing in favor of criminals, they are only arguing for everyone getting a fair hearing. Ever read, “To Kill a Mockingbird”?

Let’s see, I work a little pro bono for liberal causes, then I get made a partner at some big law firm at half a mil. Naw, ACLU are doing it out of their bleeding hearts. They aren’t thinking of the money they’ll make after.

Enfield Ct, they left those graduating high school student out in a parking lot in the cold and rain rather than have one student and two parents offended by having the ceremony in a church the school had rented. Good move ACLU, keep church and state separate. If there is a flood, don’t let that church help any tax paying refugees. And some of the homeless they feed may be voters. Get em ACLU!

The ACLU wants the Boy Scouts to stop discriminating against homosexuals. Mr Cooper, I see you skipped over that in today’s strip, probably because you didn’t want to point out that the Boy Scouts is being bigoted on this issue.

It true, some of the cases taken by the ACLU are unpopular, but they all have a common goal: to protect citizen’s rights to free speech, even unpopular speech.

The Founding Fathers made the protection of free speech the first amendment to the Constitution. It is our most important right.

Opposition to the ACLU is overwhelmingly Republican. It makes me wonder, have Republicans become opposed to the Constitution?

Suppose the Boy Scouts refused to allow anyone of Italian descent to join. Or Jews. Or the handicapped. We’d call that discrimination. The same is true for homosexuals.

Being gay isn’t a lifestyle choice. People are born that way, in the same way they are born black. Forbidding a huge group of people to join your group because of who they are is discrimination.

Ed, Aruments like yours is why folks fight against same-sex marriage. The Boy Scouts is a religious organization. Homosexuality is pretty much a sin in every religion. Allowing openly gay members would be like the Scouts saying “it’s ok to lie.” It’s not allowed because of their religious beliefs.

Forcing the Scouts to allow openly gay members violates their 1st Amendment rights. No constitutional rights of the gays are violated by the Scouts’ ban.

But let’s say folks like you and the ACLU get their way. Let’s say the Scouts must now allow gay members in. Then gay marriage is ok’d. That would then mean Catholic Churches would also have to start abiding by the ACLU standards and marry gay couples.

There’s nothing stopping gays from forming their own scout groups if they want.
