Every rock is charted now, particularly in the Florida Strait, an area very carefully watched — better than the Java Sea, anyway — to keep after duggies, terrists, immigrants. (Look up “Tethered Aerostat Radar System.”) So in real life, rescuers would probably be there by dawn.
But that would curtail the action … so we’ll say the storm was too much for the Coast Guard.
