Marcus you can get a smartphone on the cheap. I own a Galaxy Express 3 and it only cost me $40 at my local Walgreens. Then again I’m not a millenial and therefore do not suffer from an addiction to social media.
It’s funny how entrenched we become…wherever we’ve landed in the spectrum of cellphone features (from landline-only, to “dumb phone” to smartphone, to flagship to cutting edge), we camp out there, and ridicule anyone who has chosen a different spot. In reality, of course, there’s room for all of us! No one’s hurting anyone else with their choice of phone, yet we try to pull people into our worldview as if their lives depended on it. It’s more funny than tragic, though. Ah, well.
I don’t agree with those who “diagnose” millenials—or anyone else—with social media “addiction”. Spending a lot of time on something doesn’t make it an addiction. Psychology Today’s definition:
Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (for example, alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (such as gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health. People who have developed an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is out of control and causing problems for themselves and others.
I have a flip phone AND an unlocked smart phone with no SIM chip. The flip phone is for calls and texting. The wifi-capable smart phone is my PDA, camera, and email checker. (I’m posting this from it.) I pay ca $25/mo for my phone. I’m not gonna pay data charges for the supposed convenience of carrying just one device.
My sister/husband updated from a flip phone to smartphone for business and personal. He has a small family vendor business receives orders on, sister does selling from their stuff or what she buys and sells, and to what was our parent’s to mom personal stuff. Our parents are both gone. I want an tablet had allows for ebooks. Easier to read a book.

I loved flip-phones primarily because I keep pressing buttons on all of these other phones with no covering!

A recent study showed that a high percentage of teens would consider suicide if their phone privileges were taken away

Irony, he’s got money and actually can afford it and is hesitant and yet people who are not always jump and buy the new updated phone that’s out there
