I taught adult reading at Hampton Roads Literate Society. They eventually had to change the name to Peninsula Reads because the clients thought literate meant illiterate; the irony.
ladamson1918 is absolutely right. It should be “Illiterates’ Entrance,” unless there’s only one illiterate out there. Given the last general election, that’s not even a remote possibility.
On second thought, the misplacement of the apostrophe in the cartoon is part of the joke. The cartoonist is lampooning himself for being, in a slight way, illiterate.

I’d put the apostrophe after the S in “illiterates.” Surely there will be many more than one person who should use this door.
