One of my ancestors jumped ship in the 1700s and stayed in the American colonies illegally. Yes, he spoke English (with a Scots accent), but that wasn’t the majority language in North America at the time.
Lalo is unfortunately working against his own cause. He is blurring the distinction between Latino and illegal. The legal Latino immigrants have been wonderful additions to the US population. Allowing equal rights to the illegal immigrants is a slap in the face of those who followed the appropriate channels.
Lalo is correct. If we look back far enough in our ancestry we will find that all of us have ancestors that were were slave owners and slaves. That does not justify being a slave or slave owner in today world.
Unless we go back all the way to the Bering Straight early comers, Lalo is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!Some if not most came here LEGALLY being sponsored by some American corporation or by due process of law.It is WRONG to encourage illegal activities. Shame on you Lalo!
He ignores the fact that a lot of those early “undocumented immigrants” learned English, became U.S, citizens, and passed the laws that illegal immigrants are currently breaking.
You’re implying that undocumented folks here never learn English. You also inadvertently re-expose what seems to be a recurring theme for you: “I’ve got mine, so screw you,” by mentioning, “passed the laws that illegal immigrants are currently breaking.” So convenient. Let’s see, I’ll make a ton of money in some way, us it to buy myself into a nice, powerful position, and then pass laws forbidding folks to do the same thing! Genius!
Lalo is desperately trying to show that illegal immigration is okay because, at one time, all of our ancestors (including Native Americans) were immigrants without documentation. This is a bogus argument that has little relevance to today.
He’s not desperately trying to show that undocumented immigrants today aren’t horrible; he is doing it. (And by the way, don’t forget that much of the land these “illegals” are migrating into were actually part of Mexico for a good long time before the US took them.) As far as a bogus argument, you may think so, but I and many others actually don’t. So hey, we’re at our usual impasse. Fancy meeting you here again.
The Irish were not undocumented for the most part (if at all). Like other European immigrants, they had to go through Ellis Island. Doing so was like waiting to hear your dentist say whether or not you have any cavities…
. Perhaps so, Alcaraz (I only said PERHAPS), but thankfully my PARENTS AND TEACHERS taught me to ABIDE BY THE RULE OF LAW. The problem now is that, today’s lawless notion of immigration has so permeated society it may be decades for it to be purged, if ever. . If in fact I do have an ancestor that came here illegally, I really regret that, but more importantly, it DOES NOT justify the present disregard for the rule of law. We should be ashamed of ourselves for now raising a generation with this warped view of law in society.. And never forget, it’s only to get more Democratic voters; you’re duped if you think otherwise.

My wife is full-blood Cherokee. She’s traced her family back to the 1700’s and no illegals.

About this strip being in a family newspaper. It’s the editors responsibility to censor, not the artist.

@indiethink You’ve hit the nail on the head and those are the exact facts that Lalo’s alluding to! Doesn’t it feel good to agree with him for once?

Personally without certain family ties I would move to Mexico (as did at one point in time) in a heart beat.
