Hey, Lio: you’re a tough audience! You got the rabbit in the hat, card tricks close-up, magic rings, and more! What did you expect? Conjuring, alchemy, transformations?
I love how Merlin looks so enthusiastic about his cheap tricks (possibly a little crazed, even……..) I once read a science fiction story about a man who invented a time machine, and went back to meet Shakespeare. It turned out that all kinds of other time travellers had done the same thing, so Shakespeare wasn’t impressed. Then it turned out that the man was the FIRST person to time travel, and his trip to Shakespeare was his first trip. So a lot of other time travellers were going back to meet HIM while he met Shakespeare!

In Dr Lao, Merlin performed real magic, but because he wasn’t a showman, noone was impressed
