That is how you give a turtle/tortoise a shot. Had to do that with a sick water turtle one time. Use forceps to clamp onto a nail and pull the arm out of the shell until you can see the armpit. Then jab the needle into the soft tissue and depress the plunger. It’s a two person job.
Yup…terrapins have armpits, too.
When we were kids, we used to catch eastern box turtles.
The trick was to sneak up behind them and pick them up as they were moving, before they closed their shells.
We would hold them up to watch their little legs run. Then, we put them back in the leaves.
Unless we found them in our back woods, Mom wouldn’t let us bring them home, because box turtles would just make a bee-line back to where they came from.
