I live where there is a healthy timber industry, and replanting is mandatory.
But, the clearcutting has nothing to do with smart forest management. Despite decade after decades worth of research proving that selective harvest produces healthier forests and watersheds, and forests come back faster when you leave trees standing in the cuts, BLM still allows companies to clearcut.
Its cheaper, and you get more profit if you are allowed to cut down everything.
