At least, Lola got directly to his office. I have to fight with a “patient access center” agent to get to my doctors’ offices. You can’t get there directly. I usually drive to the offices in person. It’s easier than calling. A sad state of affairs nowadays, with most doctors belonging to large medical organizations. Here, the biggest is Northwell, which most of my doctors belong to. Other areas of the county have theirs as well—Geisinger, Bassett, Kaiser, etc.
You know it’s harder for the older generation to maneuver all that. But in her case, it’s ridiculous to have to go through all that every time you want to speak to your doctor. I just go to my portal and text a message to my doctor, then he sends me his message.
Hey I just went through all this. I got a text to check my email, to download a link, to renew my driver’s license, and after you have all the info it asks for, it says it will only send you a replacement with no extensions on it. But if I want a ‘REAL’ one (with the little star so I can fly or go in government places) I need to make an appointment and bring my birth certificate etc with me and here is a form to print and fill out ahead of time, in order to save time.
The thing that bothers me is getting several different requests for my opinion on how the doctor’s/clinic visit went. We never used to have those kind of questions. I think if I didn’t like it, I would either stop going there or at least tell the doctor that I wasn’t happy with what happened that particular day. That should be enough for them.
Supposedly these layers of security are to provide confidentiality of your health care info but then you go the the doctors office and the receptionist asks you all these questions in front of the people in the waiting room!
How appropriate.. I just got a message, referring me to an email, that sent me to their portal, where they left me a message asking me to call them to reschedule my appointment.

I live alone. No one else has access to my email. All this confidential portal stuff to find out my prescription has been approved is a load of B.S.
